Mastercard holders can now receive instant top-tier status within the Langham Hotels loyalty program, Brilliant by Langham, a benefit extended through December 31, 2027. The offer, initially set to expire in February 2026, provides a rapid-track to elite status based on the type of Mastercard held.
Brilliant by Langham replaced the hotel group’s previous loyalty programs, 1865 Privilege and Langham Supper Club. While Langham Hotels has a smaller global footprint than some of its competitors, its properties are generally considered upscale, with locations in cities including London, Jakarta, Melbourne, Sydney, Chicago, Latest York, and Boston. The program also encompasses Cordis Hotels and the Chelsea Hotel Toronto.
The level of status granted depends on the Mastercard tier: World Elite Mastercard holders receive Ruby status, the highest tier in the program. World and World Select Mastercard holders are upgraded to Sapphire, while Platinum, Titanium, Standard, and Gold Mastercard holders receive Diamond status.
The program’s tier structure, from highest to lowest, is Ruby, Sapphire, Diamond, Topaz, and Onyx. Achieving and maintaining Ruby or Sapphire status beyond the initial 12-month upgrade requires significant spending: 720,000 status points (equivalent to US$24,000) for Ruby and 360,000 status points (US$12,000) for Sapphire. Diamond status requires 108,000 status points (US$3,600).
To register, cardholders must first create a Brilliant by Langham membership account. They then log in to the Mastercard Redemption Portal to obtain a unique registration code, selecting their highest-tiered Mastercard if multiple cards are linked to the portal. This code is then used to activate the upgraded status.
Despite the benefits of elite status, some observers question the overall value of the program. Perks, even at the Ruby level, are considered underwhelming, lacking guaranteed complimentary breakfast and relying on upgrade vouchers. Benefits offered by competing programs like American Express Fine Hotels and Resorts and Virtuoso often exceed those available through Brilliant by Langham, including complimentary breakfast and hotel credits.
One recent member reported limited recognition of Ruby status during a stay at the Langham Hong Kong in September 2024, experiencing no early check-in or room upgrade and encountering staff unfamiliar with Ruby-level benefits. However, the member’s status was automatically renewed through August 2026 as part of a program anniversary celebration.
Mastercard has also established fast-track programs with other hotel chains, though these are generally smaller loyalty programs. The company continues to expand its partnerships within the hospitality sector.
