Norris Secures Pole Position in Dramatic Las Vegas Qualifying
Lando Norris of McLaren will start Sunday’s Formula 1 las vegas Grand Prix from pole position, after a rain-affected and challenging qualifying session. The race is scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM Norwegian time on Sunday evening. Norris topped the timesheets ahead of Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz.
Qualifying proved especially arduous due to a wet and slippery track, introducing a significant element of chance. Many drivers struggled with control, experiencing slides and near-losses as they navigated the turns cautiously.
Early in qualifying, with conditions at their worst, lap times hovered around two minutes. As the session progressed and the track dried slightly,Norris achieved a fastest lap of 1.47.934. This contrasts with his qualifying lap from the previous year, where he recorded a time of 1.34.876.
A notable casualty of the first qualifying round was seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, who will start the race from 20th and last place on the grid.
With only three races remaining in the season, this Las Vegas event - the 22nd round of the World Championship – sees McLaren’s Lando Norris leading the overall standings with 390 points. His teammate, Oscar Piastri, is closely behind, trailing by just 24 points.
defending world champion Max Verstappen sits 49 points behind Norris, keeping his championship hopes alive, though a significant turnaround will be required for him to secure a fifth consecutive title.
Last year’s Las Vegas Grand Prix was won by George Russell of Mercedes. The race is renowned for its stunning setting, incorporating a portion of the famous Las Vegas Strip into the 6.2-kilometer circuit.
