Mediaset to Broadcast LaLiga Matches Free-to-Air in Italy via DAZN Sub-Licensing Deal
Milan, Italy – May 16, 2024 - Italian broadcaster Mediaset has secured rights to broadcast select LaLiga matches free-to-air, as part of a sub-licensing agreement with DAZN. The deal, announced in April 2024,extends to include coverage of matches from the second-tier LaLiga Hypermotion, and also encompasses rights in Portugal.
This collaboration allows Mediaset to offer wider access to Spanish football, building on DAZN’s existing five-year domestic rights to LaLiga, which run through the 2026-27 season. The agreement follows a previous instance of cooperation between the two broadcasters earlier this year, when mediaset sub-licensed rights from DAZN to broadcast the FIFA Club World Cup in Italy and Spain.
During the FIFA Club World Cup, Mediaset aired one match daily free-to-air, selecting from the evening’s top fixtures. The tournament featured prominent Italian clubs Juventus and Inter milan. Currently, several Italian players are active in laliga, including Giacomo raspadori and Matteo Ruggeri, both of whom play for Atletico Madrid. The sub-licensing deal with DAZN provides Mediaset with valuable content and expands its sports programming offerings for Italian viewers.
