Lakeville North High School’s volleyball program is adapting to a significant change as it enters the upcoming season. Rayna Christianson, a nationally recognized setter committed to Creighton University, will play under new leadership after the departure of longtime coach Jackie Richter.

Richter, a 2017 state champion adn Minnesota Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame inductee, accepted a position as a Division I assistant coach at St. Thomas. Her replacement is john Yunker, formerly the head coach at Champlin Park High School for 14 years.

Christianson expressed gratitude for Richter’s impact on her development, stating that Richter “kind of made me love the sport of volleyball.” The transition represents a new chapter for the senior and the Panthers program.

Yunker, while initially not seeking the Lakeville North position, embraced the challenge. He emphasized the importance of embracing new opportunities and noted a smooth transition,praising the welcoming atmosphere from the Lakeville community’s coaches,players,and families.

Yunker brings a strong coaching pedigree to Lakeville North, having lead Champlin park to eight state tournament appearances and a Class 3A state championship in 2018. Champlin Park was also the Class 4A runner-up last year, losing to Lakeville South.

Richter voiced confidence in Yunker’s ability to build upon the success of the Panther volleyball program, predicting he will “continue to elevate the Panther volleyball program to the next level.”
