Lafayette High School Announces New Traffic Plan for 2025-2026 School Year

Lafayette, Louisiana – Lafayette High School is implementing a revised traffic flow plan for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year, aiming to improve student and staff safety and reduce congestion during drop-off and pick-up times. The changes,announced by the Lafayette Parish School System,will be in effect starting Thursday,August 7,2025,when 10th and 12th grade students return to class.

Traffic Flow Details

  • Drivers approaching the school from Marie Antoinette Street are advised not to turn onto Susan Drive, which will be exclusively designated for bus traffic.

  • Option routes for drivers include continuing on Marie Antoinette Street and utilizing McDonald Street, or turning onto Dulles Avenue.

  • When exiting the school grounds onto Foreman Drive, only right turns will be permitted.

  • Buses will utilize Susan Drive to exit the school grounds onto Foreman Drive.

  • The route for accessing the bus lane is a right turn from Susan Drive.

Staggered First Day of Classes

To facilitate a smoother transition, Lafayette High School will implement a staggered start to the school year based on grade level:

  • August 7, 2025: 10th and 12th grade students only.
  • August 8, 2025: 9th and 11th grade students only.
  • august 11, 2025: All high school students report for regular classes.

Significant Reminders for Students and Parents

School officials are urging all drivers to exercise patience and caution during the initial implementation of the new traffic plan. The Lafayette Parish School System anticipates a period of adjustment as drivers become familiar with the revised routes. Drivers are also reminded to adhere to posted speed limits in school zones to ensure the safety of students and pedestrians.

Susan Drive, located adjacent to Lafayette High School, is now strictly reserved for bus access. This change is intended to streamline bus operations and enhance safety for students boarding and disembarking.
