La Salle Reaches UAAP Men’s Badminton Semifinals, Ending Six-Year Drought
MALATE, MANILA – De La Salle University (DLSU) secured a sweep against the University of santo Tomas (UST), 3-0, on monday, October 28, ending a six-year semifinal drought in the UAAP Men’s Badminton tournament. The Green shuttlers advance too the Final Four and will face top-ranked Ateneo de Manila University on Tuesday, October 29, at 8 a.m. at the Malate venue.
This victory marks a significant turning point for the La salle badminton program, which last reached the semifinals in Season 82. The win was fueled by strong performances from James Carl Capin and a decisive showing from Karl morada and Lance Tan, ultimately clinching the match for DLSU. The Green Shuttlers’ success comes after a competitive season and sets the stage for a highly anticipated rivalry matchup against the Blue eagles.
Capin found his rhythm en route to a 22-20, 21-11 win. He followed up wiht a dominant 21-14, 21-16 victory over UST captain Angelo Tuazon in a 36-minute contest, creating separation late in both games to secure a 2-0 advantage for his team.
Morada and Tan then sealed the win for De La Salle with their performance.
“Maging mas focused pa siguro and makinig lang sa mga coaches. And siguro, magtiwala lang sa isa’t isa,” said Morada, a former Smash pilipinas training pool member, regarding planning for the semifinal match against Ateneo.
The othre Final Four slot will be contested on Wednesday between National University and the University of the Philippines.UST’s season concludes after an earlier playoff sweep of Adamson University, 3-0.
