Real madrid Maintains Perfect Start as Atlético Madrid Stumble in La Liga
Madrid, Spain – Real Madrid continued their dominant form to start the la Liga season, securing a third consecutive victory with a 2-1 win over Mallorca on Sunday. Simultaneously occurring, Atlético Madrid’s struggles continued as they were held to a 1-1 draw against Alavés, leaving Diego Simeone’s side still searching for their first win of the campaign.
Arda Güler and Vinicius Junior were the heroes for Los Blancos, finding the back of the net in the 37th and 38th minutes respectively. Mallorca’s Vedat Muriqi opened the scoring in the 18th minute, but Real Madrid quickly responded with a quickfire double to take control of the match. Slovak defender Martin Valjent played the full 90 minutes for the visitors.
Atlético Madrid, however, couldn’t replicate their city rivals’ success. A 7th-minute goal from Simeone put the capital club ahead, but Alavés responded through Vicente, who converted a penalty in the 13th minute.The match ultimately ended in a stalemate,marking Atlético’s second draw in three league games,alongside a single defeat. Slovak defender david Hancko was substituted off for Atlético in the 73rd minute – the first time he’s been replaced in a match this season.
Elsewhere in La Liga, Real Oviedo celebrated their return to the Spanish elite with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Real Sociedad San Sebastian, courtesy of a 40th-minute goal from Dendoncker.
Girona,however,are finding life difficult after their promotion. They suffered a 2-0 defeat at home to Sevilla, with goals from Alfon Gonzales (30th minute) and Romero (55th minute) sealing the win for the Andalusian side. Girona currently sits at the bottom of the La Liga table without a point to their name.
