La Araucanía Students Enjoy Trekking and Outdoor Sports in Malalcahuello Reserve
One hundred children from various communes across La Araucanía gathered on Saturday, October 10, 2026, for a day of outdoor recreation and physical activity at the Corralco sector within the Malalcahuello National Reserve, located in the Curacautín commune.
The excursion operated under the “Visiting My Parks” initiative, which functions as part of the Growing Up in Motion program run by the National Sports Institute (IND).
Schools and Communities Involved in the Malalcahuello Trekking
The delegation brought together students from several distinct educational establishments and athletic workshops across the region. Participants included students from Escuela Particular Quintrilpe in Vilcún, Escuela Raimapu de Quepe, and Escuela Esperanza de Radal—both located in Freire. Members of the Crecer en Movimiento table tennis workshop from Angol also took part under the program's "Del Juego al Deporte" component, as detailed by pulsoangelino.cl.
During the event, the youth completed trekking routes across the reserve’s designated trails. The itinerary allowed participants to experience the mountain landscapes of the cordillera while interacting with peers from other municipal districts.
Government Commits to Outdoor Athletic Programming for Youth
Regional sports authorities accompanied the excursion to monitor its execution. The Ministerial Regional Secretary of Sports, Mauricio Martínez, attended the outing and emphasized the administration’s commitment to outdoor athletic programming.

Promoting physical activity and sport through these programs of the National Sports Institute is fundamental for us.
Martínez stated, adding that the government intends to maintain support for initiatives that increase youth participation in the region’s protected reserves.
The “Visitando Mis Parques” schedule continues later this month. A second delegation of children and adolescents from across La Araucanía is scheduled to visit the Conguillío National Reserve on Saturday, October 24, 2026, continuing the Ministry of Sports’ effort to expand youth access to recreation and regional environmental education.
