LA 2028 Olympics & Paralympics: New Emblem Revealed
Los Angeles is preparing to host the 2028 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXXIV Olympiad, from July 14 to July 30, 2028. The games will mark the third time the city has hosted the international event.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved a process to award both the 2024 and 2028 Games concurrently, selecting Paris for 2024 and Los Angeles for 2028 after multiple withdrawals from the bidding process. Los Angeles originally bid for the 2024 Summer Olympics.
LA28 organizers have emphasized the utilization of existing, world-class venues throughout the Greater Los Angeles area and two additional subsites in Oklahoma City, to minimize new construction costs. This approach aligns with the IOC’s current preference for sustainable and cost-effective Olympic Games.
A more detailed event schedule was released in November 2025, outlining dates and start times for all 51 Olympic sports across 49 venues. The schedule includes a change in the traditional order, with swimming and track and field swapping positions. Competition will begin on July 12, 2028, two days before the Opening Ceremony, with field hockey, basketball, rugby sevens, water polo, handball and cricket among the first sports to commence. Canoe slalom is scheduled to be the only sport taking place on July 14, the day of the Opening Ceremony.
The LA28 Paralympic Games will follow, kicking off on August 15, 2028, and concluding on August 27, 2028.
The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum will host both the opening and closing ceremonies. SoFi Stadium will also be used for the opening ceremony.
Ticket draws are planned, with sign-ups available online.
