Kylie Jenner Steals the Show at Oscars 2024 | Timothée Chalamet
Timothée Chalamet did not win Best Actor at the 2026 Oscars, but his evening, and that of his partner Kylie Jenner, drew significant attention, culminating in the couple reportedly leaving the ceremony early following repeated jokes at Chalamet’s expense. Chalamet was nominated for his performance in Josh Safdie’s “Marty Supreme,” an A24 film about a ping-pong hustler in Manhattan’s Lower East Side, but the award ultimately went to Michael B. Jordan for “Sinners.”
The evening’s host, Conan O’Brien, made several references to recent controversy surrounding Chalamet’s comments regarding opera and ballet, stating, “Security is extremely tight tonight. I’m told there are concerns about attacks from both the opera and ballet communities.” This followed a recent interview where Chalamet expressed concern about the financial viability of those art forms, a statement that drew criticism online.
According to The Sun, Chalamet and Jenner departed the auditorium after a series of jokes targeting the actor. Even as they initially appeared to take the jabs in stride, they ultimately chose to leave the venue to avoid further attention. This occurred despite Chalamet applauding Jordan’s win.
“Marty Supreme” received a total of nine nominations, and its marketing campaign was extensive, including an orange blimp, a projection on the Las Vegas Sphere, and a surprise appearance by Chalamet at a table tennis tournament. The film features a cast including Gwyneth Paltrow, Tyler, the Creator, and Kevin O’Leary. Diego Schaaf, the film’s table tennis consultant, expressed hope that the movie would “give the sport the breakthrough it’s deserved.”
Jenner and Chalamet, who have been a couple for three years, were photographed throughout the evening holding hands and appearing affectionate. Chalamet acknowledged Jenner in previous acceptance speeches at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards, praising her as his “foundation” and stating he “couldn’t do this without you.” He also recounted a story of Jenner arranging an IMAX screening of “Interstellar” for his 30th birthday.
Chalamet was also absent from the launch of the first trailer for “Dune: Part Three” days after the Oscars, though his co-stars Zendaya and Robert Pattinson were in attendance.
