Cardinals to Start Jacoby Brissett in Place of Injured Kyler murray
GLENDALE, AZ – The Arizona Cardinals will turn to veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett for Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts, after Kyler Murray was ruled out due to a foot injury sustained in last week’s loss to the Tennessee Titans. the proclamation comes as a potential shift for the Cardinals’ offense, with Brissett stepping into a starting role at Lucas Oil Stadium, a venue he previously called home from 2017 to 2020.
Murray’s absence places immediate pressure on Brissett to lead the Cardinals against a Colts team seeking to solidify their own position in the NFC. Brissett, a 10-year NFL veteran, has started 53 career games, posting a 19-34 record with 53 touchdowns. His last start came in Week 5 of the 2023 season with the New England Patriots, where he began the season as the starter but was later benched after a 1-4 start.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Murray’s injury throughout the week, cardinals players have publicly expressed confidence in brissett’s ability to take the reins. Wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. stated, “I have full trust in Jacoby. I think the biggest thing, he’s been such a good leader and mentor for me since he got here.” Harrison also revealed that he and Brissett have been utilizing extra practice time to build chemistry, even before Murray’s injury.
Tight end Trey McBride echoed Harrison’s sentiment, saying,”I think Jacoby’s,obviously,he’s played a long time in this league… He’s a guy that I have full confidence in and a guy that commands the huddle, understands what he’s doing, and he’s going to go out there and make plays and he’s going to do the right thing.”
Brissett’s experience navigating different teams and offensive systems is expected to be a valuable asset as he steps into the starting role for the Cardinals.
