Kudus: Tottenham’s Key to Premier League Survival?

March 25, 2026 Alex Carter - Sports Editor Sport

Mohammed Kudus is nearing a return from a hamstring injury as Tottenham Hotspur find themselves in a precarious position, just one point above their former club West Ham United and only outside the relegation zone on goal difference. The Ghanaian’s anticipated comeback comes after a historically poor run of form for Spurs, leaving questions about whether he can salvage their Premier League season. Kudus sustained the injury during a 1-1 draw against Sunderland on January 4th. Prior to the injury, Tottenham, under then-manager Thomas Frank, were in a relatively stable position, sitting 13th in the league and 13 points ahead of West Ham. However, since then, Tottenham have failed to secure a single Premier League victory, spiraling towards the bottom of the table. The club is currently navigating uncertainty surrounding the future of manager Igor Tudor, with reports suggesting his tenure may be short-lived. Kudus may not be fit enough to immediately bolster Tudor’s attacking options upon his return, but his presence will be crucial as Tottenham attempt to climb out of danger. Kudus joined Tottenham last summer believing he was taking a step forward in his career, leaving West Ham on good terms. He quickly became a key player for Frank, with his six assists and two goals in his first 19 Premier League appearances demonstrating his immediate impact. However, it was not simply his goal contributions that impressed, but his ability to navigate physical challenges and create opportunities in tight spaces. The recent defeat to Nottingham Forest highlighted Tottenham’s technical limitations, particularly when attempting to break down a compact and physical opponent. Despite a vocal home crowd, the team struggled to find a foothold in the match, exposing a need for greater quality and cohesion. Kudus’s return is timely, as Xavi Simons has yet to consistently deliver dominant performances in the Premier League, and Mathys Tel is still adapting to his role within the team. The Ghanaian winger offers a unique skillset and a proven ability to influence matches, making him a vital asset in Tottenham’s fight for survival. According to a post on Twitter by Nathan A. Clark, Tudor indicated that Kudus could rejoin the squad within ten days, offering a glimmer of hope for Spurs fans. The international break provides a crucial opportunity for Kudus to regain full fitness and prepare for a pivotal run of fixtures.
