Kuching Festival Martial Arts Display: Unity and Sarawak Spirit

Kuching, Sarawak – A vibrant martial arts display at the Kuching Festival 2025 on august 8th showcased the strength adn unity of the Sarawak community, with over a dozen groups participating in a celebration of traditional and modern disciplines.

Sarawak Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr.sim Kui Hian emphasized the importance of inclusivity, stating, “Everybody to be involved either in martial arts, dance, sports, whatever you name it, we will create it.” He highlighted the event as a presentation of the “Sarawak spirit,” proving that martial arts can be a symbol of cultural identity. Dr. Sim also reiterated the state’s commitment to ensuring no one is left behind, emphasizing that age is not a barrier to participation, but rather strength and spirit.

The Kuching Festival Martial Arts Display 2025 featured performances from a diverse array of organizations, including the Sarawak Taiji Qigong Shibashi Association, Fa Jia Gong Pertubuhan Meditasi Fo Fa Ling Xian Zong Kuching, Persekutuan Silat Olahraga Nasional Negeri Sarawak, Persatuan Silambam Negeri Sarawak, and the Sarawak Iban Kuntau Association. Other participating groups included Pergurusan Silat Gerak kuntau Betawi Darul Hana – Kunto Spring Nek Bojeng, Kelab Taiji kungfu Fan, Pergurusan Seni Silat Siantong Melayu Asli, Persatuan Persilatan Seni Asli Zamrud Kuching, Persatuan Judo Sarawak, Kuching Taekwondo and Self Defense Academy, Wushu Federation of sarawak, Cawangan Tempur Tanpa Senjata, and a contingent from the Rejimen Pertama Kor polis Tentera Diraja Kem Muara tuang Kota Samarahan Rumpun.

Deputy Premier Wee urged continued efforts to foster harmony within the community, pledging ongoing support for programs designed to connect children, youth, and seniors. The initiative aims to build a stronger, healthier, and more connected Kuching, reinforcing the principle that strength lies in unity and inclusivity. The kuching Festival, an annual event, typically draws over 500,000 visitors and serves as a key platform for promoting Sarawakian culture and tourism.The martial arts display is a relatively new addition to the festival,having begun in 2023,and has quickly become a popular attraction.
