Kota Permai Golf Course: Design & Pro Tournaments | Malaysia

by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

The Kota Permai Golf & Country Club in Kota Kemuning, Malaysia, has been a prominent venue for professional golf competitions since its creation in the late 1990s. The course was designed by Australian golf architect Ross Watson.

Watson, who established his own firm in the 1990s after a partnership with Graham Marsh, has designed numerous courses in Australia and Asia. His operate includes Magenta Shores, Pacific Harbour, Yering Meadows, and a 2006 overhaul of Royal Sydney Golf Club. However, the changes Watson made to Royal Sydney were later altered in 2016 by Gil Hanse.

At Magenta Shores, Watson focused on shaping the sandy terrain into what he described as believable dunes and natural-looking golf holes. Other projects by Watson include the 99 East Golf Club, noted for its design, and the Penang Golf Club, which offers a scenic and strategically designed course.

Watson began his career in golf design in 1979. His projects have included The Vines, Horizons, Paradise Palms, and Terrey Hills. He has been described as prolific in both Australia and across Asia.
