Restructuring the Production and Investment Pipeline

Operating through the end of the year, the committee features a structured leadership team. KOFIC Chairperson Han Sang-jun and Film Festival Policy Group Co-Representative Kim Jo-gwang-soo serve as co-chairpersons. The roster includes four KOFIC board members and six private-sector committee members.

Targeting Pain Points Across the Sector

Their agenda centers on critical industry pain points:

  • Restoring a virtuous economic cycle
  • Boosting investment
  • Expanding film-viewing access
  • Improving financial and institutional frameworks
  • Upgrading working environments for creators

Public Hearings and the Platform Era

The operational timeline kicks off its public engagement phase on September 22. A public hearing is scheduled at the Korean Film Archive under the title “Asking for New Governance for Film and Video in the Platform Era.” The session aims to gather direct insights from field practitioners regarding the evolution of streaming video on demand, digital syndication, and shifting audience metrics.

Leadership Outlines Unified Strategy

Co-chairperson Han Sang-jun emphasized the collaborative intent behind the initiative. Official KOFIC announcements state that the committee serves as a step to build a sustainable future alongside filmmakers. Han noted that the council intends to listen directly to the field without filters and actively integrate those insights into practical policy to drive a resurgence in Korean cinema.
