Kodak Expands Pharmaceutical Portfolio with Normal Saline and New US Online Store
Kodak Launches U.S. Direct-to-Customer Storefront for Pharmaceutical and Laboratory Products
Eastman Kodak expanded its pharmaceutical portfolio by introducing a 0.9% normal saline product and opening a direct-purchase online storefront based in the United States. The company manufactures the isotonic solution at its U.S. facilities registered with the Food and Drug Administration under current good manufacturing practices. According to the company, the products meet United States Pharmacopeia standards where applicable and serve laboratory and bioprocessing workflows.
- Kodak added KODAK Normal Saline, 0.9% along with phosphate-buffered saline and water for injection products to its regulated reagent offerings.
- The company launched an e-commerce platform at pharmastore.kodak.com for direct U.S. procurement of pharmaceutical-grade reagents and buffers.
- Production takes place at a cGMP facility in Rochester, New York, designed with energy-efficient equipment and a water sterilization system.
In addition to the normal saline release, Kodak added four regulated pharmaceutical products to its market portfolio. These new offerings include two 1X phosphate-buffered saline formulations—comprising low-endotoxin variants and RNase-, DNase-, and protease-free versions—alongside two water for injection products in standard and RNase-/DNase-/protease-free formulations. These additions complement the company’s existing standard 1X PBS product and mark its initial entry into the water for injection category. The products utilize multi-stage water purification and batch traceability for researchers, biopharmaceutical developers, and contract development and manufacturing organizations.
Executive Chairman and CEO Jim Continenza stated that transitioning from non-regulated starting materials to regulated Class 1 laboratory reagents marks a milestone in the company’s long-term plan. The enterprise previously supplied non-regulated starting materials for contract development and manufacturing organizations and maintains more than 1,400 processes for specialty chemical products.

Rochester Plant Upgrades Coincide with Financial Challenges
The manufacturing operations are anchored in a production facility in Rochester, New York. The plant incorporates energy-efficient lighting and custom process equipment built to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, alongside a water sterilization system designed to minimize consumption and waste. Kodak is currently pursuing ISO 13485 certification for medical device quality management systems.
This pharmaceutical expansion coincides with a challenging financial period for the manufacturer. The company holds a market capitalization of $722 million, reported $1.045 billion in revenue over the trailing twelve months, and posted net losses of $26 million alongside a gross profit margin of 20.67%.
New E-Commerce Portal Streamlines Reagent Sales
The new e-commerce portal at pharmastore.kodak.com allows U.S. customers to inspect product specifications, review technical documentation, and buy pharmaceutical-grade reagents directly. Company leadership positioned the direct sales channel as a method to make essential products more accessible for domestic biotechnology and life sciences organizations.
Kodak indicated plans to introduce additional products, including Class II offerings, as the enterprise continues its expansion across the pharmaceutical sector.
