Knocked Loose and Denzel Curry Perform Hive Mind at Surprise Brooklyn Show

On July 28, Kentucky hardcore band Knocked Loose and Florida rapper Denzel Curry delivered the live debut of their collaborative single ‘Hive Mind’ during a surprise, free pop-up show at Substance Skatepark in Brooklyn. Announced just one day in advance, the performance drew a massive crowd and featured an opening set from New York hardcore band Combust, preceding an upcoming 24-date North American co-headline tour.

Surprise Brooklyn Pop-Up Brings Hardcore and Rap Together

The unannounced Brooklyn performance at Substance Skatepark offered fans their first opportunity to witness the cross-genre single performed in a live setting. According to reporting of the event, Denzel Curry emerged during Knocked Loose’s set to deliver his rapid-fire verse alongside frontman Bryan Garris. The packed venue quickly dissolved into a chaotic environment defined by heavy moshing and active crowd-surfing.

The track ‘Hive Mind’ was originally released in February, bridging the gap between Knocked Loose’s intense metalcore sound and Curry’s distinct trap influences and fast-paced delivery. The official music video was filmed at David Armstrong Extreme Park in Louisville, Kentucky, featuring Garris and director Eric Richter capturing the band in their hometown environment.

Origins and Evolution of a Cross-Genre Partnership

Speaking about the creation of the track when it first dropped, Bryan Garris noted that the band had discussed working with Curry for an extended period. Garris stated that Curry was the only artist who could successfully execute the vision they had in mind for the song, emphasizing that the rapper immediately understood the band’s aesthetic and energy.

‘Hive Mind’ marked the first new music released by Knocked Loose following their critically acclaimed 2024 album ‘You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To’, a record that featured the Grammy-nominated collaboration ‘Suffocate’ with artist Poppy. Garris explained in interviews with music publications that the overwhelmingly positive public reaction to these unconventional pairings has inspired the band to push their sound further into extreme territory rather than pulling back.

Upcoming North American Tour Schedules

Following the Brooklyn pop-up, Knocked Loose and Denzel Curry are preparing to launch their official co-headline ‘Hive Mind’ North American tour. The routing kicks off on September 26 at the MegaCorp Pavilion in Newport, Kentucky. The extensive 24-date trek will travel across the continent before concluding in Mexico City on November 8.

Meanwhile, Denzel Curry remains active across multiple projects, having released ‘Strictly 4 The Scythe’ in March—a collaborative album created alongside Key Nyata and the broader Scythe collective.
