Klaas-Jelle K. sentenced to 20 months for sexual assault of 18-year-old
A 58-year-old former municipal council group leader from Urk, identified by Reformatorisch Dagblad as Klaas-Jelle K., was sentenced to 20 months in prison—with eight months suspended—for the sexual assault of an 18-year-old man in a moving car.
The Encounter in Lelystad and the Assault in the Vehicle
The victim, who had just turned 18, contacted the Urker on December 22, 2024, asking for assistance after finding himself stranded in Almere without money for public transport to Emmeloord, according to Omroep Flevoland. The young man knew the perpetrator because the 58-year-old had previously served as his youth coach in a voluntary capacity.
Instead of merely providing transportation, the driver picked up the young man and assaulted him en route. According to the court records detailed by De Rechtspraak, the perpetrator reached into the victim’s trousers and began pulling at his genitals while the vehicle was in motion. Despite the victim repeatedly telling him to “stop” and freezing from shock, the driver escalated the abuse.

De Rechtspraak noted that the man drove the car to a halt, locked the doors, and carried out more severe sexual acts while the victim had no means of escape. The victim voiced his immediate opposition the following day via text message, writing, “I really don’t think it’s cool of you that you did that,” and later warning him to stay away, stating, “Leave me alone. This really cannot go on.”
The Court Verdict and Mandatory Treatment Orders
Gelderland District Court rejected the defendant’s denials during the trial, emphasizing the high consistency and detailed nature of the victim’s testimony, which was supported by observable emotional distress when recounting the acts. The court concluded that the offender made a severe breach of the victim’s bodily integrity, compounded by the pre-existing trust relationship stemming from his role as a youth coach.
Because the defendant refused to take responsibility or provide insight into his actions, and because he continued to come into contact with minors through his roles as a youth coach and foster parent to a minor son, the court deemed him an unacceptable risk. Alongside the 20-month prison sentence—of which 12 months are unconditional—the court ordered immediate enforcement of special probation conditions requiring professional treatment, as advised by the probation service (reclassering).
Political Fallout and Resignation from the Municipal Council
Until recently, the convicted man served as the faction leader of the political party Rechtvaardig en Betrokken Urk (RBU)—a single-seat continuation of the PVV—in the municipal council of Urk, as documented by Reformatorisch Dagblad. Although he remarked during court proceedings two weeks prior to the verdict that a conviction would impact his political career, he did not wait for the final judicial outcome.
He stepped down from his council work the weekend before the ruling amid the impending judgment. Meanwhile, local leadership addressed the community impact, with the mayor of Urk publicly describing the case as “serious” and emphasizing that “integrity and trust of great importance” are paramount for elected officials.
