King Charles Revokes Prince Andrew‘s Royal Titles and Style
LONDON – King Charles III has formally stripped his brother,Andrew Mountbatten windsor,of his “Royal Highness” style and the title of Prince,a move confirmed by official documents published Wednesday in the UK’s official public record,the Gazette. The decision, announced a week prior, was enacted through letters patent under the Great Seal of the Realm, dated November 3, 2025.
The letters patent explicitly state that andrew Mountbatten windsor “shall no longer be entitled to hold and enjoy the style, title or attribute of ‘royal Highness’ and the titular dignity of ‘Prince’.” A separate warrant, dated October 30, 2025, directed the removal of Mountbatten Windsor from the roll of peerage as the Duke of York, effective promptly.
The King’s action follows sustained public and media scrutiny surrounding Mountbatten Windsor’s association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey epstein. Allegations of sexual abuse made by Virginia Giuffre, a victim of Epstein’s trafficking ring, have further fueled the controversy, claims Mountbatten Windsor has consistently denied.
Charles exercised his royal prerogative – powers inherent to the monarch – in removing the titles, following consultation with Cabinet Office officials. This method bypassed the need for parliamentary action. The HRH style, conferred by letters patent, can be revoked by the same instrument.
Following the initial announcement from Buckingham Palace, Lord Chancellor David Lammy was instructed to prepare the necessary documentation. The King’s decision also includes Mountbatten Windsor relinquishing his lease on Royal lodge, the 30-room Crown Estate property in Windsor he has occupied for two decades. The government has expressed full support for the King’s actions.
Despite the removal of his royal titles,Mountbatten Windsor will be permitted to retain his South Atlantic medal,awarded for his service as a Sea King helicopter co-pilot during the Falklands conflict.
