Kimi Antonelli vant USAs Grand Prix og utsetter VM
Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli won the United States Grand Prix in Austin on October 25, 2026, but must wait at least another week to secure the Formula 1 world championship. The 20-year-old Italian led across the finish line ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen at the Circuit of The Americas, as reported by VG.
Antonelli entered the race weekend holding a commanding points lead and could have sealed the title on Sunday evening. Han var imidlertid avhengig av at Lewis Hamilton og George Russell ikke ble bedre enn henholdsvis nummer fem og ni. Hamilton finished fourth and Russell took eighth, leaving Antonelli just two points shy of clinching the crown with five rounds remaining on the calendar.
Strategic Execution in Austin
Antonelli secured pole position during Saturday’s qualifying session by edging Verstappen by 0.179 seconds, according to fvn.no. On race day, the Mercedes team deployed a singular tyre strategy that anchored the victory. Antonelli told Viaplay that his team executed a strong one-stop plan that kept him clear of the chasing pack after his sole depot stop on lap 32.
Leclerc acknowledged the tactical disadvantage after the race, noting that Ferrari had no answer for the winning strategy. Antonelli finished 13 seconds ahead of Leclerc, while Verstappen claimed the final step of the podium. The victory marks Antonelli’s ninth win of the 2026 season and halts a three-race stretch without a Grand Prix win.
Antonelli Leads Standings as He Chases World Title
Antonelli sits atop the drivers’ standings with 365 points. George Russell holds second place with 242 points, followed closely by Lewis Hamilton with 241 points, Max Verstappen with 236 points, and Charles Leclerc with 233 points.
Securing the two required points from the final five races will make Antonelli the youngest world champion in Formula 1 history. Sebastian Vettel currently holds that distinction, having won his first title at 23 years and 134 days old in 2010. Antonelli stated to Viaplay that he intends to finish the season strongly rather than limp over the line via a minor points finish.
The championship battle resumes on November 1 in Mexico City. The remaining rounds continue through Brazil on November 8, Las Vegas on November 21, Qatar on November 29, and conclude in Abu Dhabi on December 6.
