Kilworth Festival: Niamh Kavanagh Concert & Event Highlights

KILWORTH, COUNTY CORK – The Kilworth Festival kicked off wiht a vibrant performance by Eurovision winner Niamh Kavanagh and her band, The Illegals, on Sunday, july 7th, 2024, attracting a strong turnout and positive feedback from attendees.

Kavanagh, who won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1993 with “In Your Eyes,” delivered a high-energy set to a crowd exceeding 200 people within the festival’s marquee. The event, designated for those 18 and over, showcased Kavanagh’s enduring appeal and musical talent.Sources indicate the festival organizers specifically targeted a broader demographic with this opening night performance.

The singer reportedly expressed her admiration for Kilworth village, praising its lively atmosphere and available amenities. Local residents actively promoted the festival and the village itself to Kavanagh, highlighting the community spirit. The setlist, featuring a mix of Kavanagh’s hits and popular covers, kept the dance floor consistently full throughout the evening.

Festival organizers ensured a smooth operation with efficient bar service and a popular chip van catering to attendees’ late-night cravings. Professional security personnel, contracted from cork City Security, maintained a safe and enjoyable environment, reporting no incidents throughout the event. The security team comprised four members, strategically positioned around the marquee and entrance points.

The kilworth Festival, now in its 15th year, has become a significant cultural event for North Cork, drawing visitors from across the county and beyond. Originally established in 2009 by the Kilworth community Association, the festival aims to promote local talent and boost tourism in the area. This year’s festival will run through Sunday, July 14th, featuring a diverse program of music, drama, and community events. Future events include a performance by the local kilworth Drama group on Friday, July 12th, and a family fun day on Saturday, July 13th.
