Killer of Şerife Gezer in Gaziosmanpaşa Confesses Out of Jealousy
On August 25, in the Gaziosmanpaşa district, 41-year-old Şerife Gezer was shot and killed by Hakan Sayacı, 51, who was her former partner. According to reports from Hürriyet, Sözcü Gazetesi, Sabah, and İhlas Haber Ajansı, the fatal attack occurred in the street after the suspect intercepted the victim, shooting her in the chest and neck before barricading himself in a nearby workplace where police subsequently detained him.
The Final Moments and Initial Emergency Response
Moments before the fatal shooting, Şerife Gezer managed to contact her father, Ahmet G., by phone. According to statements given to law enforcement by Ahmet G., his daughter called to report that Hakan Sayacı had cut off her path and posed an immediate danger. Shortly after that phone call, the family received notification that she had been gravely wounded. Bystanders and responding emergency personnel found Gezer in a non-responsive, unconscious state. She was rushed to a hospital, where medical staff confirmed she succumbed to her injuries. Crime scene investigators recovered two spent cartridge casings at the scene.
Ten-Year History and the Suspect’s Confession
Police inquiry details reveal a history of harassment following the end of a long-term relationship. According to Ahmet G.’s statement, Şerife Gezer and Hakan Sayacı had shared a ten-year relationship before separating approximately two years prior to the attack. Despite the separation, the suspect continually pursued the victim. Following his capture through a controlled police intervention after he barricaded himself in a workplace, Sayacı’s formal interrogation statement emerged. Hürriyet reported that the suspect confessed to the killing, telling authorities he grew intensely angered upon learning that Gezer had become engaged.

Following his apprehension, Hakan Sayacı was transferred to police headquarters, where records confirmed he had a prior criminal record for intentional injury (“Kasten yaralama”). Authorities formally referred the suspect to the courthouse.
