kerala Blasters Football Club Potentially Up For Sale Amidst ISL Financial Uncertainty
Kochi, Kerala – The Kerala Blasters Football Club, a prominent franchise in the Indian Super League (ISL), is reportedly being considered for sale, according to sources familiar with the matter. The potential sale comes as ISL clubs grapple with financial concerns and uncertainty surrounding the league’s new economic and commercial structure.
Founded in 2014, the Kerala Blasters were initially spearheaded by cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar and businessman Prasad Potluri. The club’s name itself is a nod to Tendulkar’s famed nickname, “Master Blaster.” In 2016, a consortium including Nimmagadda Prasad, Nagarjuna, Chiranjeevi, Allu Aravind, and K. Chiranjeevi acquired an 80% stake in the club. Tendulkar divested his 20% share in 2018, transferring full ownership to the consortium, which later became known as Magnam Sports in 2021. Currently, Nikhil Bharadwaj, son of Nimmagadda Prasad, serves as the Chairman of the Club.
The ISL has yet to finalize pre-season arrangements for the upcoming season, largely due to these financial anxieties.Club management, including the Kerala Blasters, have emphasized the need for a clear understanding of the league’s financial framework to accurately budget for the season’s expenses. The potential sale of the Kerala Blasters underscores the broader financial pressures facing ISL teams as thay navigate a changing landscape.
The outcome of any potential sale remains uncertain, but the news has sparked concern among Kerala Blasters fans.
