Kénitra-Marrakech high-speed rail project is 41% complete, says Ministry
Construction work on the high-speed railway extension connecting Kénitra and Marrakech has reached 41 percent completion, according to data presented to Parliament by the Ministry of Transport and Logistics.
The update, communicated on November 3, marks an eleven-point advance since late May 2026, when Minister Abdessamad Kayouh reported that the infrastructure project stood at 30 percent completion.
Tracking the 53 Billion Dirham Rail Corridor
The massive infrastructure undertaking spans an axis of 430 kilometers with an allocated budget of 53 billion dirhams. The latest figures show steady movement across the corridor, though major engineering phases remain ahead before passengers can board.
Civil engineering work is slated to wrap up by October 2027. Following that structural milestone, specialized teams will install signaling systems through December 2028.
Alstom Supplies Double-Deck Trainsets for High-Speed Network
The ONCF selected Alstom’s Avelia Horizon double-deck trainsets to operate the expanded high-speed network. That rolling stock acquisition stems from a contract finalized in March 2025.
The first physical trainset is scheduled for delivery in September 2027.
Sub-Hour Transit Times to Casablanca Mohammed V Airport
For residents and travelers in Marrakech, the primary operational benefit centers on connectivity with aviation hubs. Ministry projections indicate that the rail link will reduce travel time between central Marrakech and the station serving Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport to under 55 minutes.
That railway transit duration excludes pre-flight security formalities and terminal transfers. The connection creates a direct pathway for international travelers arriving at the Casablanca hub to continue southward.
Project Targets Full Commercial Delivery by September 2029
The schedule sets September 2029 as the target for full commercial delivery of the Kénitra-Marrakech high-speed line. Those dates represent the official operational targets currently guiding the 430-kilometer project.
