NEW‌ YORK – Actors Keanu Reeves ⁤and Alex Winter are set to ⁣star in a new Broadway production of Samuel Beckett’s seminal play, ⁣”Waiting for Godot,” beginning this fall. The revival marks ⁣a⁣ meaningful stage debut for‍ Reeves, while Winter ⁤brings broadway experience to the iconic roles of ⁢Vladimir and Estragon.

The ‌production⁤ offers a unique lens ‍on Beckett’s 1953 masterpiece, exploring themes of faith, patience, and the human condition thru the perspective of two actors revisiting the play later in life. This interpretation promises to resonate with audiences as Reeves and Winter ⁤bring their personal experiences with ‌”highs and lows and loss” to the roles, offering a fresh ‌take on a ⁤play that has captivated theatergoers for over seventy years.Performances are scheduled to run through January 4, 2026.

“Waiting for Godot” centers on Vladimir and Estragon, two characters endlessly waiting for the arrival of someone named Godot, who never appears. The play is renowned for its minimalist setting and philosophical depth, prompting ongoing discussion about its meaning and relevance.

Reeves, known for his roles in “The⁣ Matrix” and “John Wick,” ‍expressed a mix of emotions about his first Broadway appearance, admitting to ‍feeling “terror, anxiety, hope” before jokingly conceding,”Looking forward to it…‌ said the person⁢ who has no idea what he’s talking ‌about!” Winter, who has previously appeared on Broadway, noted that their ages bring a new dimension to the play’s themes.

“Having experienced a lot of highs and ⁣lows and loss, the play is a lot more personal to me now,” ‍Winter said. He explained that the play, in⁤ part, explores “running away from that⁤ pain,” with the characters’⁣ constant distractions serving as a metaphor for avoiding the present moment.
