LINC (Leaders in Networking and Community) annually collaborates with teh Kansas City Public Library and the Black Archives of Mid-America to present compelling narratives of individuals who have left a lasting impact on the kansas City area. This partnership highlights often-untold stories of Black history and achievement, preserving legacies for future generations.

The project, a cornerstone of LINC’s community engagement efforts, typically involves in-depth research, oral history interviews, and careful documentation. The resulting stories are then shared through various platforms, including exhibits at the Kansas City Public Library and the Black Archives, as well as online resources. The Kansas City Public Library plays a vital role in providing access to historical materials and research support, while The Black Archives of Mid-america offers specialized expertise in preserving and interpreting Black history.

These collaborative efforts aim to broaden public understanding of the contributions of Black individuals to Kansas City’s cultural, economic, and social fabric. The stories often focus on pioneers in fields like education, buisness, arts, and civil rights. By amplifying these voices, LINC, the Library, and the Archives work to create a more inclusive and accurate historical record.

Past projects have included profiles of prominent figures and lesser-known community leaders, showcasing the diversity of black experiences in Kansas City. The initiative not only celebrates individual achievements but also provides valuable insights into the broader historical context of the Black community in the region. LINC’s commitment to this annual project demonstrates it’s dedication to fostering a more equitable and informed community.

The partnership ensures these critically important stories are not lost to time, offering educational opportunities and inspiring future generations. The combined resources of these three organizations create a powerful platform for preserving and sharing the rich history of Black Kansas City.
