Kazakhstan and EU Deepen Strategic Partnership
Kazakhstan and the European Union are enhancing their collaborative efforts. Discussions have centered on vital areas like sustainable development, infrastructure, and critical minerals. This partnership aims to foster economic growth and environmental sustainability between the two regions.
Expanding Cooperation
During recent discussions, parties examined the expansion of their strategic alliance. These discussions emphasized sustainable development, infrastructure enhancements, and collaborations involving critical minerals. Officials are committed to executing investment projects, with a strong focus on technology transfer, the establishment of production clusters, and manufacturing localization.
Infrastructure Initiatives
Joint infrastructure projects, including the modernization of sewage treatment facilities across several Kazakh cities, received special attention. Sustainable urban development projects were also discussed. Furthermore, cooperation is set to grow regarding critical mineral supplies, alongside involvement in shaping sustainable global raw material supply chains.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) actively supports Kazakhstan. Since 1992, the EBRD has invested over 10 billion euros in approximately 300 projects. These span various areas, from energy and transport to green technologies. Globally, infrastructure investment needs are projected to reach $94 trillion by 2040 (McKinsey, 2023).
Upcoming Visit
Odile Renaud-Basso, the President of the EBRD, is scheduled to visit Kazakhstan. The visit is planned for June 23 and 24, 2025. The meetings will involve discussions with senior government officials and business representatives. These meetings aim to further strengthen the ongoing partnership.
