Katie Suarez critically injured after stabbing in Brooklyn
What was meant to be a routine evening check-in with her parents ended in a brutal attack when 28-year-old Katie Suarez was critically injured after being stabbed multiple times in the neck. Suarez, who police sources say was training for the New York City Marathon, was jogging along a paved waterfront path in Brooklyn, New York, when the violence unfolded.
The Jog Along Shore Parkway Greenway
According to a statement from the New York Police Department, the attack occurred at around 8 pm local time on Friday, October 30. Suarez was running along the Shore Parkway Greenway when she was targeted. Sources familiar with the family reported that she had left work earlier that evening with plans to meet her parents after completing her run. During a phone call with her parents at approximately 8 pm, Suarez told them she was about half a mile away from their agreed meeting point. Concern grew quickly when she failed to arrive and stopped responding to phone calls.
Emergency medical personnel rushed Suarez to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where she remains admitted in critical condition.
NYPD Appeal for Witnesses
Authorities have not yet released details regarding a possible suspect or a motive behind the stabbing. In response to the attack, the NYPD has launched an appeal for public assistance to help identify the attacker and establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Investigators are particularly eager to speak with anyone who may have seen Suarez between 7:56 pm and 8:12 pm near the eastbound bike path along the Belt Parkway, between Bay 8 Street and Bay 17 Street.
