Princess Kate Reveals Family Ban on Smartphones too Protect Children‘s Wellbeing
The Princess of Wales has revealed a strict “no smartphone” policy for her three children-Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis-as part of a broader effort to prioritize family connection and safeguard their mental health. The policy, recently disclosed by Prince William, is underscored by Princess Kate’s newly published essay warning of the dangers of constant digital distraction.
In the essay, co-authored with Harvard Medical School Professor Robert Waldinger and published Thursday by the Royal Foundation Center for Early Childhood, Princess kate argues that excessive device use can erode essential human connection. “When we check our phones during conversations, scroll through social media during family dinners, or respond to e-mails while playing with our children, we’re not just being distracted-we are withdrawing the basic form of love that human connection requires,” she wrote.
The Princess’s focus on early childhood growth has become a central tenet of her royal work, and the smartphone ban reflects a commitment to fostering a screen-free environment at home. She warns that unchecked digital engagement could contribute to a generation becoming “the most isolated in history.”
