The incident occurred while supporters gathered to hear Vijay speak as part of his campaign for upcoming elections in Tamil Nadu,scheduled for the start of next year. The 51-year-old actor recently entered the political arena, drawing important crowds to his rallies.
Reports indicate a jostling broke out amongst attendees, leading to the devastating loss of life. Following the incident, Vijay expressed his condolences via social media, stating: “My sincere condolences and all my sympathy to the families of our dear brothers and sisters who lost their lives in the Karur district.” He also shared a message on X (formerly Twitter) describing his heartbreak and offering sympathies to the bereaved families.
