Karrion Kross WWE Contract Issues: Frustration and Negotiations Explained

by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

Breaking: Karrion Kross and Scarlett Bordeaux are now free agents after their WWE contracts expired on August 10th, as confirmed by the company’s alumni page update. The departure follows stalled contract negotiations, leaving many within the wrestling community surprised given Kross’s recent popularity and merchandise sales.

The pair were reportedly offered a new contract last week, but an agreement wasn’t reached before the August 10th deadline. This outcome marks the end of their second run with WWE, following their initial call-up from NXT in 2021 which was cut short due to injury. Kross and Bordeaux initially signed with WWE in February 2020, debuting in NXT and quickly rising to prominence, capturing the NXT Championship and establishing a captivating on-screen presence.

Karrion Kross recently detailed his frustration with the negotiation process in the second part of his YouTube documentary, “The Killer.” He revealed he first expressed interest in renegotiating his contract in January 2024, stating, “It’s like preposterous that anyone would think that I wouldn’t want to be here or like go somewhere else… it’s frustrating cause you express your interest to stay and be here and do things and I’m not going to beg.” Kross further explained that despite repeated attempts, substantive conversations about a new deal didn’t occur until recently, and the eventual discussion left him “profoundly disappointed.”

The timing of Kross’s release has raised eyebrows, especially considering his strong merchandise sales figures earlier in 2024 and his prominent role in a recent feud with Sami Zayn, culminating at WWE Summerslam on August 3rd at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. Kross’s merchandise consistently ranked among the top sellers on WWE’s online shop, indicating important fan support.

Speculation persists among wrestling observers that the contract expiration could be part of a larger storyline, drawing comparisons to previous instances of perceived “worked” situations, such as seth Rollins’s storyline injury leading to his Money in the Bank cash-in at WWE SummerSlam. However, Kross’s own statements suggest genuine dissatisfaction with the negotiation process.
