Karren Karagulian, the acclaimed Armenian-American actor celebrated for his collaborations with director Sean Baker on films like the Oscar-winning Anora and The Florida Project, has officially signed with Buchwald for representation. This notable career move follows the remarkable success of Anora at the recent Academy Awards, where it secured five wins from six nominations. Karagulian’s contribution to the film was further recognized with an invitation to join the prestigious Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences.
In Baker’s palme d’Or winning film, Anora, Karagulian delivered a powerful performance as Toros, the godfather and enforcer for an oligarch’s family. His role involved the critical task of dissolving a marriage impulsively made by the oligarch’s son with a young sex worker from Brooklyn. For this role, Karagulian earned an Autonomous Spirit Award nomination, underscoring his talent and impact in the independent cinema landscape.
With a career spanning over 25 years, Karagulian has been a steadfast supporter of independent filmmaking. his artistic journey with Sean Baker began with the 2000 film Four Letter Words, which also marked his directorial debut. He has as appeared in several of Baker’s notable works, including Prince of Broadway, starlet, Tangerine, The florida Project, and Red Rocket. Notably, he also served as an associate producer on the 2015 film Tangerine.
Beyond his extensive work with Baker, karagulian is set to star in the upcoming holiday action-comedy The Man with the Bag from Amazon MGM Studios. He will share the screen with a star-studded cast including Arnold Schwarzenegger,Alan Ritchson,and Awkwafina. The film is currently in post-production. Karagulian continues to be managed by ColorCreative and is represented legally by Ginsburg Daniels Kallis.
