Asunción, Paraguay – A Venezuelan karate team is preparing to compete in the Pan-American Youth Karate Championship, commencing this Thursday, August 28th, and concluding on August 31st at the SND Arena in Asunción. The delegation represents one of 25 nations participating in the event, and is the fifth largest in terms of athlete representation.
The Venezuelan roster includes rising stars gianluca Greco, a gold medalist from the 2024 Bolivarian youth Games in Sucre, Bolivia, and José Antonio Molina, who secured gold medals at both the South American Championships in Brazil and the Central American Championships in Colombia earlier this year.
The championship will showcase the continent’s top young karate practitioners.Competition begins with the Kata individual feminine divisions for under-12 and under-14 age groups, followed by individual Kumite events ranging from -37 kg to +47kg.
Cadet-level athletes will compete on Friday, August 29th. The event will culminate with male Kumite categories, spanning from -55kg to +76 kg.
The Venezuelan team was selected following a national qualifying tournament held on July 21, 2025. Athletes were chosen in each category and discipline – Kata and Kumite – to represent Venezuela at this continental competition.
