Karachi Beef and Mutton Prices Rise by Rs50 to Rs100 per Kg

November 6, 2026 Priya Shah – Business Editor Business

Karachi Beef and Mutton Rates Rise by Rs50 to Rs100 per Kg Under New Commissioner Notification

Karachi’s city administration has increased official beef and mutton prices by Rs50 to Rs100 per kg, dawn.com reported on November 6, 2026. The newly notified rates set beef with bones at Rs1,050 per kg and boneless beef at Rs1,350 per kg, marking a Rs50 per kg increase compared to the previous schedule announced in February.

Veal rates have experienced identical upward adjustments. Official prices for veal with bones and boneless veal now stand at Rs1,350 and Rs1,650 per kg respectively, also reflecting a Rs50 per kg rise. Meanwhile, the official price for mutton advanced to Rs2,300 per kg, up from the previous rate of Rs2,200 per kg, according to the official notification issued by the Karachi commissioner.

Persistent Price Disparities in Open Markets

Despite official price notifications, a wide gap continues to persist between government-mandated rates and open market realities across the city. Weekly data from the Sensitive Price Index (SPI) shows that actual market rates for mutton in Karachi have already surged to Rs2,200 to Rs3,000 per kg over the past month and a half, climbing from a previous range of Rs2,000 to Rs2,800 per kg. Current open market rates for veal with bones are trading at Rs1,500 per kg, while boneless veal commands between Rs1,700 and Rs1,800 per kg, according to figures cited by dawn.com.

The reporting highlights that consumer food-price inflation remains stubborn as municipal price caps fail to align with ground-level merchant pricing structures.

Fuel Spikes and Export Volumes Drive Meat Price Escalation

Meat merchants attribute the continuous price escalation to mounting operational overheads and high export volumes. Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices have climbed sharply to Rs500 to Rs550 per kg, up from Rs380 per kg just a few months prior. Combined with elevated diesel rates, these fuel spikes have substantially inflated the cost of moving livestock and meat products to urban retail centers.

Meat Category Previous Official Rate (Rs/kg) New Official Rate (Rs/kg) Current Market Price (Rs/kg)
