Kangwon Land Chairman Reappointed to Lead Anti-Gambling Efforts for Second Term
Seoul, South Korea – Choi Young-sik, Chairman of the committee for Integrated Supervision of the Meandering Industry, has been reappointed to the position for a second consecutive two-year term, recognizing Kangwon Land’s sustained commitment to combating illegal gambling and fostering responsible gaming practices. The reappointment underscores the critical role kangwon Land plays in addressing a growing societal issue, notably among vulnerable demographics like youth and military personnel.
Kangwon Land has emerged as a central force in South Korea’s fight against illegal gambling, operating a dedicated surveillance institution and proactively raising public awareness through forums and campaigns. This renewed leadership comes as illegal online gambling continues to proliferate, posing financial and social risks to individuals and communities. The company’s efforts are increasingly focused on leveraging advanced technologies, like its AI-powered “gamble Tracker” system, to detect and disrupt illicit operations.
Last year, Kangwon Land expanded collaborative models with the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and the Army to enhance its preventative measures. This year’s initiatives included strengthening cooperation with related organizations, promoting a sound gaming culture, expanding university student monitoring teams focused on online illegal gambling, and hosting a youth gambling content contest.
“In order to eradicate illegal gambling, cooperation among related organizations and continuous attention are essential,” stated Choi. “In the future, Kangwon Land will do its best to strengthen preemptive response and perform a social role as a public corporation by advancing the surveillance system for illegal gambling, both online and offline.”
Kangwon Land’s ongoing work is particularly significant given the increasing sophistication of illegal gambling platforms and the vulnerability of young people and soldiers to associated harms. The company’s commitment to innovation and collaboration positions it as a key player in safeguarding the public and promoting responsible gaming in South Korea.
