Kaizer Chiefs Beat Magesi 2-0: Duba & Vilakazi Score | 2026 Premiership
Kaizer Chiefs secured their second consecutive Betway Premiership victory on Saturday, defeating Magesi FC 2-0 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. The win marks the first time this season Amakhosi have scored more than one goal in a match since their 4-1 triumph over Orbit College in November.
The match, played on Human Rights Day under rainy conditions, saw three changes to the Kaizer Chiefs starting lineup. Aden McCarthy returned from suspension, replacing the injured Zitha Kwinika at the back. Nkosingiphile Ngcobo took the place of Siphesihle Ndlovu in midfield, and Pule Mmodi was preferred to Ashley Du Preez on the wing, according to the club’s website.
Magesi FC fielded an unchanged side from their previous come-from-behind draw against Chippa United. Allan Freese suffered his second loss in five games as manager of Dikwena tša Meetse, and his team remains without a league win away from home this season.
The game began with an early setback for Chiefs as captain Inácio Miguel received a yellow card in the 6th minute, ruling him out of the club’s next fixture due to suspension.
Despite the early caution, Chiefs began to assert control. In the 10th minute, Miguel launched a long ball to Mduduzi Shabalala, who quickly passed to Glody Lilepo. Lilepo’s subsequent shot narrowly missed the left post.
Chiefs continued to press, with Pule Mmodi finding Lilepo in a crowded box in the 14th minute, but his shot was blocked by Mzwandile Buthelezi and Lehlegonolo Mokone. A minute later, a clearance from John Mokone found Dillan Solomons, who set up Nkosingiphile Ngcobo for a pass to Lebohang Maboe, but his attempt at the bottom right corner was saved by goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze.
The breakthrough came in the 32nd minute. Lilepo switched play to Wandile Duba on the edge of the area. Duba drove forward, skillfully maneuvering past John Mokone before firing the ball past Chipezeze for his first goal of the season.
Magesi had opportunities towards the finish of the first half. In the 43rd minute, Sifiso Luthuli headed a corner narrowly wide of the target. Stoppage time saw Solomon’s back pass overshoot Miguel, allowing Luthuli to advance, but his shot was saved by Bruce Bvuma after a determined recovery effort from McCarthy and Miguel.
The second half saw Chiefs come close to extending their lead in the 54th minute, but John Mokone intercepted a pass intended for Lilepo.
Substitutes played a role in sealing the victory. In the 67th minute, Solomons passed to Mfundo Vilakazi, who crossed to Gastón Sirino, but his shot went wide.
Chiefs ultimately doubled their advantage in the 84th minute. Thabiso Monyane whipped a ball into the box for Vilakazi, whose initial mishit took the ball away from his defender, allowing him to score on the second attempt.
Kaizer Chiefs will next face Orbit College on April 6th at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha. Magesi’s fight for survival continues on April 7th against Marumo Gallants at the Seshego Stadium in Polokwane.
