KAIST to Unveil Physical AI Industrialization Strategies on the 13th

October 11, 2026 Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor Entertainment

KAIST will host Physical AI KOREA 2026 on the 13th at the KI Building on its Daejeon main campus to unveil industrialization strategies and technology developments for applying physical artificial intelligence across manufacturing, medical, and logistics industries. KAIST announced on the 11th that the event is open to the general public, with online pre-registration running until noon on the 12th.

KAIST Develops Core Intelligences for Physical AI

Physical AI involves technology that perceives the surrounding environment and moves through self-decision-making. Rather than developing a specific robot, KAIST plans to secure technologies that can be commonly used across multiple industries. The core elements consist of sensory intelligence, motor intelligence, and swarm intelligence. Sensory intelligence identifies the surrounding environment and a person’s condition, motor intelligence controls robot movements based on that information, and swarm intelligence helps multiple robots share information and work together.

KAIST plans to build platforms usable in industrial fields by combining these technologies with driving devices and data processing technology. Research achievements will be commercialized, with KAIST expanding industrial application and supporting talent cultivation and entrepreneurship through professor-founded startup companies such as Angel Robotics and Lion Robotics.

Research Team Demonstrations and Key Exhibits

  • Park Hae-won’s research team will introduce a humanoid capable of transporting objects weighing 15 kg or more.
  • Shim Hyun-chul’s research team will demonstrate the humanoid pilot robot “PIBOT,” which directly operates equipment in an airplane cockpit.
  • Myung Hyun’s research team will unveil autonomous mobile technology that identifies positions and movement paths in unfamiliar spaces.
  • Bae Hyun-min’s research team will disclose technology that precisely controls robot movements using motors and sensors.
  • Kyoungchul Kong’s research team will showcase a wearable robot that assists with walking. KAIST President Bae Choong-shik plans to directly wear the robot and demonstrate a health information analysis case utilizing movement data.
