Juvenile Whale Found Dead on Tanjung Aru Beach, Kota Kinabalu | Malaysia News
KOTA KINABALU, March 22 — The carcass of a juvenile whale was discovered Saturday at Tanjung Aru Beach, near the Shangri-La Tanjung Aru Resort, days after the animal was observed at the Sutera Harbour Resort jetty and released back into the sea, according to a report by the Daily Express.
Personnel from the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), stationed at the beach, made the discovery at approximately noon. The whale was found stranded between rocks along the shoreline.
The Shangri-La Tanjung Aru Resort is located within 25 acres of landscaped gardens, approximately 10 minutes from Kota Kinabalu International Airport and nearby coral islands, according to information from the resort itself.
Sutera Harbour, a neighboring integrated hospitality group, also operates a marina and country club in the area. The group emphasizes its commitment to luxury and providing unique experiences to visitors, as stated on its official website.
The discovery of the deceased whale follows a previous incident where the animal was sighted at the Sutera Harbour Resort jetty. Authorities subsequently released the whale back into the ocean, but the circumstances surrounding its death remain unclear.
The Shangri-La Tanjung Aru Resort features the STAR Marina and the Chi, The Spa, a facility offering traditional Asian healing philosophies, as noted in reviews on Tripadvisor. The resort’s Sunset Bar is also recognized as a prime location for viewing sunsets.
