The Army confirmed that the soldier is “fine” when contacted by Le Parisien. The young man continued his parade stoically despite the apparent injury, which is believed to have been caused by the ceremonial weapon he was handling.
The parade involves military units marching before officials, with choreographed sword movements intended to impress the public. This is when the soldierS injury is thought to have occurred.
This year’s July 14th parade also saw another minor incident where a horse and its rider fell, and another horse briefly ran lose on the Champs-Élysées. These events also concluded without any serious harm.
