Japanese judoka Yasuyuki Muneta, a two-time world champion, recently conducted a judo seminar in Mexico, according to a post on social media platform X by user @laaficion.
Muneta, born February 10, 1981, in Matsuyama, Ehime prefecture, has a distinguished career in the heavyweight division of judo. He secured gold medals at the World Judo Championships in 2003 in Osaka and 2007 in Rio de Janeiro, and a silver medal at another World Championship event. He also holds three Asian Championship titles, winning in 2000, 2002, and 2006. His achievements also include medals at the Asian Games in 2002 and 2006, and at IJF Grand Slam and Grand Prix events in 2008 and 2009 respectively.
Prior to becoming a professional judoka, Muneta trained at the Kodo-school, known for its judo program, after receiving initial instruction from his father. He is a graduate of Meiji University and formerly belonged to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. He continues to compete as a heavyweight for Japan.
