Judge Awaidat Refuses Interrogation; Challenges Blind Investigator

Judge Awaidat Rejects Interrogation by Judge Bitar, citing Lack of Authority

Beirut, Lebanon – In a significant legal growth, Judge Ghassan Awaidat has refused to acknowledge or comply with a summons for an interrogation session scheduled for the 21st of this month, presided over by Judge Tariq Bitar. The refusal, communicated in a handwritten note, asserts that Judge Bitar lacks the necessary validity and authority to conduct the proceedings.

The refusal stems from a request made by the Attorney General to the Court of Cassation,Judge Jamal Al-Hajjar,on July 15,2025. Judge Awaidat reportedly delivered his response to his residence in the town of Shaim, stating his non-recognition of the authority of the “blind investigator.”

Judge Awaidat’s response, penned in his own handwriting and signed, explicitly stated: “Having the blind investigator, the one who is blinded by his hand, the appendices, and the owner of this call, pursuant to the provisions of Article 354 A.C., you are an invalid party and therefore we may inform us of the alleged claim and the date of the session from nothingness.”

He criticized the Attorney General’s decision to implement such directives, describing them as “grave and false mistakes and violating the law.” Awaidat urged the Attorney General to uphold the integrity of his position, emphasizing the importance of justice, respect for the office, and the preservation of the rule of law.
