JSW Reports Subpar September Coal Production and Sales
WARSAW – JSW, Poland’s largest coal producer, reported significantly lower-than-planned coal production and sales for September, according to a current report released by the company. The results underscore ongoing challenges for the company, which is undergoing a Strategic Transformation Plan aimed at stabilizing its financial situation.
JSW produced 1.07 million tons of coal in September, achieving only 83.9% of its 1.28 million ton monthly plan. Coal sales for the month reached 1.15 million tons, representing 87.1% of the monthly target.
Company officials attributed the shortfall to fires at the Budryk and Zofiówka mines, leading to temporary mining suspensions, and the early termination of operations in some mine walls.
Despite the weak September, JSW’s production for the January-September period totaled 9.52 million tons, representing 98.3% of the planned output. Sales over the same period reached 9.56 million tons, or 98.7% of the planned amount.
Within September’s figures, sales of coal for energy purposes were the only positive result, exceeding the plan with 0.19 million tons sold against a target of 0.18 million tons. though, coking coal sales lagged, reaching 0.96 million tons compared to a planned 1.14 million tons (84.3% of the plan).
JSW’s management continues to emphasize increased production as a core component of the Strategic Transformation Plan, launched at the end of last year, to address financial difficulties stemming from challenges in the steel market.
