The Athletic’s David Ornstein and Mario Cortegana reported that Mourinho stands as Real club president Florentino Pérez’s primary choice to replace current manager Álvaro Arbeloa for the upcoming season.

While Benfica officials hope to retain their manager, Mourinho’s contract includes a €6 million release clause valid until the end of May.
