Jorge Masvidal: UFC Star Training FBI Agents to Save Lives
Retired mixed martial artist Jorge Masvidal recently completed a training session with students at the FBI’s headquarters in Quantico, Virginia, instructing them in de-escalation and subduing techniques, according to a post on social media and statements from Masvidal.
The UFC fighter, who hasn’t competed in MMA since a loss to Gilbert Burns in 2023, said he believes the training could “save a lot of lives” by equipping agents with skills to resolve confrontations without resorting to lethal force. “If they could de-escalate a situation and learn how to subdue somebody properly, maybe it doesn’t have to get to that point to fire their weapon,” Masvidal stated in a video posted to X, formerly Twitter, on March 17, 2026.
The UFC’s partnership with the FBI has drawn some public attention, including criticism directed at FBI Director Kash Patel for his attire during the event – a custom tracksuit – and a satirical piece published by The Onion. Masvidal, however, focused on the potential benefits of the training.
Masvidal’s last victory came in 2019, when he defeated Nate Diaz by doctor stoppage to win the BMF Championship. He subsequently lost a boxing match to Diaz in 2024. He announced his retirement from MMA following his defeat to Burns, but re-entered the UFC’s anti-doping testing pool last year, signaling a possible return to the sport.
