Vancouver Canucks prospect Jonathan Lekkerimäki will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery, according to a report from Rick Dhaliwal of CHEK TV.
The 21-year-old forward has spent the majority of the 2025-26 season with the AHL’s Abbotsford Canucks, registering 13 goals and 20 points in 21 games. He initially made the Canucks’ opening-day roster but was injured in October and subsequently assigned to Abbotsford upon his return. Lekkerimäki was later recalled to Vancouver and played in 13 NHL games, scoring two goals and adding one assist while averaging 11 minutes and 41 seconds of ice time.
The injury occurred after Lekkerimäki had been given an opportunity to play NHL minutes leading into the Olympic break, with the Canucks no longer in contention for a playoff spot. He was drafted 15th overall by Vancouver in the 2022 NHL Draft.
Lekkerimäki initially sustained an injury during a game against the Washington Capitals on October 19, sidelining him for approximately a month. He also experienced a setback near the end of December before returning to play in January.
The Canucks are scheduled to return to action on February 25 with a home game against the Winnipeg Jets.
