Duke basketball Adds Jayce McCain as Player Development specialist
DURHAM,N.C. – Duke men’s basketball coach Jon Scheyer has announced the hiring of Jayce McCain as the team’s Player Development Specialist.McCain transitions into the role after serving the past two seasons as a graduate assistant for the blue Devils.
McCain recently finished his Master’s degree at Duke, building upon a foundation of experience in player growth, leadership training, and basketball operations. Coach Scheyer expressed his enthusiasm for the appointment, stating, “Jayce has forged strong connections with our players, and I’ve personally witnessed his positive impact on their on-court development during his time as a graduate assistant.His energy and intuitive understanding of the game will be a valuable asset to our coaching team.” Scheyer added that McCain completes a staff he believes is both energetic and highly capable.
Before joining the Duke program, McCain excelled as a student-athlete at Cal State San Marcos. He captained the team to a historic first CCAA Tournament Championship and a no. 1 seed in the NCAA Division II tournament in 2022, earning First Team All-League recognition. he finished his collegiate career as the second all-time leading scorer in Cal State san Marcos history and actively participated in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
McCain’s commitment to basketball extends beyond the collegiate level, with a proven track record of coaching and mentoring young athletes, focusing on skill development and personal growth.
He initially earned a Bachelor’s degree in Communication from Cal State San Marcos in 2023.
