Jon Hamm learned he had become a viral sensation thanks to an unexpected source: news anchor Brian Williams. The actor revealed on Thursday’s episode of “Good Morning America” that Williams first alerted him to the widespread circulation of a clip from his 2004 film, “Your Friends & Neighbors,” showing Hamm dancing expressively in a club.
“It’s the weirdest story ever, because the first person to send me this thing – and it was probably in December 2025, maybe November – was Brian Williams,” Hamm said during the interview, as reported by ABC News. He added that the clip’s virality “was tremendous… and then, two days later, the world started sending me that.”
Hamm appeared on “Good Morning America” to promote his upcoming animated Pixar film, “Hoppers,” scheduled for release on March 6. The film centers on a new technology allowing human consciousness to be transferred into robotic animals, enabling communication with the animal kingdom. Hamm voices Mayor Jerry Generazzo, a character he described as an initial antagonist who undergoes a transformation. “He does go on an emotional journey, and he figures out that maybe the better way to resolve conflict is to listen to the other side rather than just ignore,” Hamm explained. He confessed to being deeply moved by the film, stating, “I was crying like a 4-year-old at the end of that movie. It works, it’s so great.”
“Hoppers” features a voice cast including Piper Curda, Bobby Moynihan, Kathy Najimy, Dave Franco, Eduardo Franco, Aparna Nancherla, and Sam Richardson. Moynihan and Curda previously appeared on “Good Morning America” earlier in the week to discuss the project. The film’s premise explores a world “where scientists have discovered how to ‘hop’ human consciousness into lifelike robotic animals, allowing people to communicate with animals as animals!”
Hamm also discussed his recent hosting duties at the NFL Honors, expressing his enthusiasm for the sport. “I love the NFL. I played football as a young man. It’s really fun. And to celebrate the guys, only one team can win the Super Bowl, but a lot of those boys deserve flowers, so I love giving them out,” he said.
