John Dickerson to Depart ‘CBS Evening News’
Washington, D.C. – John Dickerson, co-anchor of “CBS Evening News,” will leave the network later this year, CBS News confirmed Tuesday. His departure marks the latest shift for the broadcast as it navigates ongoing internal changes and seeks to solidify its position in a competitive evening news landscape.
Dickerson’s exit follows a period of restructuring initiated by former “60 Minutes” executive producer Bill Owens, who left the company following controversy surrounding a 2024 interview with Vice President Kamala Harris. The network’s decision to settle a lawsuit brought by Donald Trump over the interview for $16 million-despite experts labeling the case frivolous-further underscored a turbulent period for CBS news.Dickerson will continue in his role until his departure, with details regarding a replacement yet to be announced.
A former writer for Time magazine, dickerson joined CBS News as a contributor and later held several positions within the division, including anchor of “Face the Nation.” He transitioned to “CBS This Morning” in 2017 after Charlie Rose was terminated following allegations of sexual harassment.
Prior to co-anchoring the “Evening News,” Dickerson hosted a nightly newscast on CBS News Streaming. He could not be immediately reached for comment.
