Jack Swagger Claims John Cena Blocked 2010 WWE Championship Win
Former WWE Superstar Jack Swagger (Jake Hager) recently revealed that john Cena declined to lose to him in a planned 2010 WWE Championship match. Swagger discussed teh situation during an appearance on the INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet podcast.
The controversy centers around Swagger’s 2010 Money in the Bank briefcase. He won the briefcase at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view on July 18, 2010, guaranteeing him a shot at the WWE Championship. The initial plan, according to Swagger, was for him to cash in the briefcase adn defeat Cena on an episode of Monday Night Raw.
“Oh yeah, he absolutely refused to do it,” Swagger stated on the podcast. He clarified that he was informed of Cena’s refusal directly.
“I was told that was what happened,” Swagger said. “Because the original plan was I was gonna beat him Monday night on Raw and not do the tease. But I’m a young guy. I’ve been there for a cup of coffee, so what are you gonna do?”
Swagger noted that this wasn’t an isolated incident in cena’s career, suggesting a pattern of resisting losses to elevate other talent. He expressed surprise at a recent situation involving The Miz and Truth (Ronnie Killings), where Cena seemingly allowed Truth to gain prominence.
“I’m not the only guy he’s done that to; he did that throughout his career. I was surprised to see what happened with him and truth lately, because usually he tried to take that glory. But I feel like this time, he’s the one who said we better go with Truth and get him back here.”
At the time, Cena was in the midst of a lengthy WWE Championship reign, having defeated Batista at WrestleMania XXVI in March 2010. swagger ultimately cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase on Chris Jericho in September 2010, winning the World Heavyweight Championship.
