FBI Raid on John Bolton‘s Home Yielded “Ordinary Records,” attorney Says
(NewsNation) – Documents seized by the FBI during a raid on the home of former National Security Advisor John Bolton were “ordinary records” consistent with a decades-long career in public service, according to his attorney, Abbe David Lowell of Lowell & Associates.
“These materials, many of which are documents that had been previously approved as part of a pre-publication review for Amb. Bolton’s book, were reviewed and closed years ago,” Lowell stated. “These are the kinds of ordinary records, many of which are 20 years old or more, that would be kept by a 40-year career official who served at the State Department, as an Assistant Attorney General, the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, and the National Security advisor. Specifically, the documents with dated classification markings from the period 1998 – 2006 date back to Amb. Bolton’s time in the george W. Bush Administration. An objective and thorough review will show nothing inappropriate was stored or kept by Amb. Bolton.”
Federal agents executed a search warrant at Bolton’s residence on August 22nd while he was not present. Court records released weeks later revealed that agents confiscated iPhones, USB drives, computers, and folders labeled “Trump I-IV.”
Bolton served as National Security Advisor for 17 months during President Trump’s frist term and subsequently became a prominent critic of the former president. He was among a group of former officials who had thier security details revoked by Trump earlier this year.
As of this reporting, Bolton has not been charged with any crimes.
